Hanoi, May 13, 2025 – On May 12-13, my colleagues and I at Humane-AI Asia successfully collaborated with the ABAII Institute and the U.S. Embassy to organize the first course on Artificial Intelligence Ethics in Vietnam. This is an important milestone, marking the beginning of a journey to build ethical capacity in the development and application of AI in our country.

We designed the course specifically for the community of technology experts, state management officials, lecturers, and researchers – those who play key roles in Vietnam's AI ecosystem. Our goal is not only to share knowledge but to stimulate critical thinking and a sense of ethics, so that AI in Vietnam develops responsibly and with a human-centered approach.
With over 500 participants from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the program focused on practical content:
- Ethical principles in the design and operation of AI systems;
- Risk management and legal responsibilities;
- Analyzing algorithmic bias and social consequences;
- Legal frameworks and AI policies from the U.S., EU, to Asia.
The course was developed based on reputable international reference frameworks such as UNESCO's AI Ethics, OECD's AI Principles, the U.S. NIST standards, and recent executive orders from the U.S. President.
It was a great honor to collaborate with experts such as Mr. Dao Trung Thanh – Deputy Director of the ABAII Institute, Mr. Nguyen Tran Minh Quan – legal and AI risk consultant, and Mr. Jeffery Recker – Director of Babl AI (USA).
I also had the opportunity to share my insights as a lecturer and subject matter advisor during the course. Together, we created an interdisciplinary learning space where technology meets law, where engineering dialogues with philosophy, and where humans are placed at the center of technological advancement.
I believe that AI ethics is not an option but the foundation of social trust in the digital age. This course is not just an educational event – it is our commitment to building a community of ethical AI practitioners in Vietnam, where technologists are not only skilled in their craft but also understand their role in society.
We look forward to continuing to spread this mission in future programs – not only in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City but also in many other localities across Vietnam.
